The Director of Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT), Mr. Hubert Barbé welcomed the Founder and Chancellor of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University Dr. G. Viswanathan from India on Friday 10th November 2017 at the Providence campus.

This meeting was made possible following recommendation from President’s Office  State House for the such meeting to happen. Following his arrival in Seychelles, Friday afternoon, Dr. Viswanathan was driven staright from the Airport to SIT providence and was welcomed by Mr. Barbé at around 3:30p.m for a frutful meeting. Present for meeting, were other members of the SIT management  also two representatives from the Agency for Human Resource Development (ANHRD.)

Dr. Viswanathan was accompanied with Dr. C. Vijayakumar, Director for International Relations at VIT.

During the discussion, Dr. Viswanathan wanted to find out what the needs of SIT were and how VIT University could assist and work with the Professional Centre.  Dr. Viswanathan was briefed on the mandate of SIT under the Tertiary Education Act 2011 and on its vision as a TVET professional centre.

It was agreed that SIT could   have its   lecturers already qualified with a degree to be trained to a master’s degree which would in turn enable the two institutions to work in partnership to offer undergraduate level programmes, which could be started at SIT and completed at VIT in India.  Dr. Viswanathan was to further discuss the proposition during his meeting with President of the Republic on the following Saturday.

Mr. Barbe has described the meeting with Dr. Viswanathan as a very fruitful one and is looking forward to eventually signing an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University to initiate the partnership.
